I am getting a bit scared, as I thought that downgrading the packages
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to version 0.15.2 would reinstate touchpad
functionality, but it does not. What is the origin of the problem then?
is it a kernel issue? How could I contribute to the fix of it? thanks.

I'd love to be able to use the trackpad but at this point I am unsure if
there is interference between the plugged mouse and the trackpad.
I have removed (with dpkg -P ) the xserver-xorg-input-* packages

Any hint on what is going on here? Am I doing
