Hi M45smg I worked around my problem with this: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=103cp_id=10311cs_id=1031105p_id=2881seq=1format=2 For $7.00 USD I was able to get headphone sound. This isn't the best solution, but it works right now. Find a supplier near you for one of these things. In Kubuntu the USB device can be configured as the default sound card, and when the USB audio card is unplugged, the computer switches to the internal card. by simply adding this to the end of my headphone cord, it solved my problem. Ubuntu's Gnome can likely be configured in a similar way, but I have not used it to say for sure. This USB sound card seems to work great with Linux, unlike the VIA chip. The microphone is work, but the headphone jack is no sound. I don't think they need to fix anything, they just need to make sure problems they solved before are included in new releases. The Gbook I have had Ubuntu 8.04 preinstalled and sound worked properly. At some point Canonical must have been working with Everex or VIA on this driver. Sure hope you guys can get this working. I have the same issue on my everex gbook and it is not new. Can you also confirm this issue exists with the most recent Karmic Koala 9.10 Alpha release? ISO CD images are available at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic/ .
