I've just found this: Important: Over the next few weeks, Launchpad is generating keys for each PPA. While this is happening, one of two things will happen when you install software from a PPA: * Ubuntu will warn you that the package is unsigned. * Ubuntu will tell you that it can't verify the key used to sign the package. Visit the PPA's overview page to confirm the key's fingerprint and then continue if you are happy that the package is correctly signed. In either case you should be happy that you trust the author of the package. Neither Launchpad nor Ubuntu check the suitability of software packaged in PPAs. Unfortunately Launchpad doesn't support apt keys at this time and since the archive is hosted on Launchpad (where you filed this bug report as well) there isn't a way to authenticate the source. As I understand it sometime later this year they may be adding support to authenticate the source. I've found the way to always reproduce the bug: - open the file attached by clicking it when OOo is not open (so not by opening file in an OpenOffice.org window) - choose ISO-8859-1 encoding in the text import window and click OK Then OpenOffice.org menu doesn't display correctly some French accents. If I close the file, the menu keeps accents problems.
