I used an ACPI script to turn off my laptop monitor when the lid is closed, but with the lid open it still shows the screen saver forever. On my desktop, the monitor goes blank but the backlight is still visible. I've upgraded to Karmic and yet this bug persists so I would suggest that either that status change was incorrect or this is not a duplicate of that bug. For me the screen blanks correctly for a day or so of uptime. After that it goes black according to the screensaver settings but the backlight remains on. Only a reboot resolves the issue. This issue was not present in Jaunty. Screen just blanks. It suspends every 100 secs. or so, but switch on right after again.
