this happens with mplayer too, but does not happen when using the fglrx
driver, so i am affecting the ati driver, too

the backtrace (as an attachment) to the bug report. This will greatly
help us in tracking down
ok, but i think something went wrong... at least i did not generate too useful
output.
it's the first time i generate a backtrace. so maybe i did not do it right, but
if you give me further instructions i'll do that...

no i did not have that package installed.
i did not set that breakpoint (maybe one could add a hint that this is
necessary to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace#Generation (thats where
your link above leads)).
but i did this now and the new backtrace is attached

did you install libgtk2.0-0-dbg and use gdb to break on gdk_x_error as
indicated in the error?
