I see the same on my ICH8-based motherboard (Asus P5B).
And I know that some time ago audio worked perfectly, so it should be some
drivers problem.

have used all combinations of with/without
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
options snd-hda-intel single_cmd=1
with no difference in outcome.
