Yes, I have a Belkin optical mouse w/ scrollwheel.
I tried several mouses, but none of them caused me any problem, the same
happens for other usb pen drives.
Do you think it could be an hardware related problem like an FS damage?

you had a Belkin optical mouse w/ scrollwheel. Does this mouse (or any

Yes, my usb key it's a generic pen drive, and I experienced the same problem
both with my laptop and with other two desktop.
The OS is always Ubuntu 8.04.
Here the output of uname -a command:
Linux alessandro 2.6.24-18-generic #1 SMP Wed May 28 20:27:26 UTC 2008 i686

Is your usb key a generic one? not a mp3 right?
Can you give us the output of the following command:
uname -a
Then plug your usb key and enter this:
lsusb
