The 8139 driver was installed (and the Realtek card working as eth0) when I tried the modprobe eepro100. I won't have access to the machine again until after thanksgiving, but I'll try it with an 8.10 liveCD when I'm back. -- Intel ethernet card and RealTek card seem to conflict
