Xorg.0.log.old also says after normal boot DRM interface 1.3 is used,
while before it crashes it says DRM interface 1.0. And then:
[drm] Could not set DRM device bus ID.
which prevents DRI from being enabled.

Thanks. According to the backtrace in the log your video driver is
causing the crash while doing something 3D-related. I wonder why the
crash is only triggered on the second login though...

In the posted Xorg.0.log.old the SAVAGE driver first reports DRI is
enabled, later that it is disabled. After successful logins glxinfo
tells me DRI is on.
