This isn't a bug. ~/.bashrc is just that - a configuration file for the Bash shell. It is not the responsibility of gnome-session to read this file. The session is started with /bin/sh, which is a symlink to /bin/dash on Ubuntu anyway, so Bash preferences will not work here. ** Changed in:

i think the original bug report is not a bug because gnome should not read the shell initialization files. gnome (gdm) reads the .profile (see /etc/gdm/Xsession) so any LC_* settings is best put there. see also my anser at https://answers.launchpad.net/questions/60699 -- Locale settings in
