Kile (1:2.0.1-1ubuntu1) stills crashing on my Ubuntu 8.10, this bug is really
fixed on intrepid?
Thanks.

@jperl and sqj
Just had some other software in my PPA which conflicted with building a kile
that can actually run on intrepid. I got rid of that now, so a new kile package
for intrepid is there when it finishes building.

I'm having the old problem with kile crashing under intrepid
I added the lines:

@Andreas,
I just wanted to report, that I have been running kile in everyday usage now
for a couple of days without a singe crash.
So this seems fixed to me.
Thanks a lot for you effort, it is great to have that programm back
again, and I guess you can mark this bug fixed.

Thx for reporting back, i'll consider it fixed.
It is indeed great to have kile back. And again if you find any
problems, don't hesitate to file a bug about it.

Hi, I am not sure if this is the same bug I encountered previously, however
kile just crashed on me again, twice. I am running the version from your repos

Do you have the package kile-dbg installed (as you use the ppa version)?
Looks like all the debug symbols is missing.
Furthermore; when kile crashes the kde crash handler should start and show you
a backtrace; there should be no need to use gdb. When you get a new backtrace
in that way
Ok, thats why it doesn't make much sense.. however I can't install kile-
dbg package because adept tells me that the dependency kdelibs5-dbg is
broken - I could try to force the installation, but I am somewhat
reluctant to do so, because this is my working enviroment..

Thanks a lot for your testing!
Do you run kde4.2? And have you switched to use intrepid-backports for
that? If you haven't switched that might be why you can't install it (at
least one of the options).

Good to hear. Be sure to install the kile-dbg package as well, if you use the
PPA, and report any crashes you encounter, so we can get them fixed.

Andreas,
just FYI: I've been using the SVN version of kile since you put it on
your PPA and while it crashed on me two or three times it never happend
during saving a file, so I would too consider this bug fixed.
Thank you very much for your efforts!

I'm closing as fix released. If you use the package from my PPA i have
forced installation of debug-symbols in the newest version; if a crash
should occur at any point you should get a usable backtrace ready for a
bug report automatically.

Sadly I must report, that the bug still exists in the jaunty version.
Though I worked with it yesterday without problems, today it crashed on
the first time compiling the document. I attached the tex-file. I would
like to provide you with a backtrace, but when I try this:
gdb kile 21 | tee
@dajense which version did you have installed? I'm trying to do weekly
or bi-weekly updates in my PPA; and I have seen a lot of crashes being
fixed in the last week. I'll consider adding a -dbg package in my PPA as
well to easily get a backtrace.
To get the exact version you can do:
apt-cache
Here is what the command spits out.
j...@jens-mobile:~$ apt-cache policy kile
kile:

I added your ppa repos and tried to install your version, but adept
holds back the packages on upgrade. When I try direct install I also get
Da Sie nur eine einzige Operation angefordert haben, ist es sehr wahrscheinlich,
dass das Paket einfach nicht installierbar ist und eine Fehlermeldung über
Then it is still the old version that causes problems.
Looks like you picked the line for jaunty and put in your sources.list; it
should be this one:

Thanks, that worked nicely. New splash screen and gui too I thought I was

work fine. However I wrote that two posts ago, so I will again keep you posted

Andreas,
i tried installing kile from Jaunty

they were build a few days before. Try the version from my PPA instead
when it finishes building; it should be installable in intrepid, at
least if you have kde4.2 installed: https://launchpad.net/~andreas-
I could not reproduce the crash reliably. The same file would crash once in a
while, sometimes during compiling, sometimes during saving and sometimes not at
all. Sometimes the file was damaged and sometimes not.
Coding is set to KDE-Standard.

Seems you can reproduce the crash much more reliably than me (as I am
not able to reproduce at all). Are you able to test if the crash happens
with the version in jaunty? You should be able to simply download and
install the kile deb from jaunty in intrepid.

I downloaded and installed this package:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/tex/kile
I tested it with two files that crashed previously, so far it seems to
work. However I could not realiably reproduce the crash earlier, so I
will go back to working with kile (switched earlier to emacs because of
@Eros
I tested with your attached file with version 1:2.0.1-1ubuntu1 in intrepid, but
could not make it crash. Do you do anything in particular to get it to crash?
Do you have the file-view or one of the other views open? And which encoding is
kile set to be using in settingseditoropen/save?
The problem seems to occur, as kile as a kde3 app has been linked
against some kde4 libraries. In jaunty kile has been updated to a kde4
version, so this problem shouldn't happen anymore. Is anyone able to
confirm that it is fixed for them with the jaunty version?

I've attached a sample tex file to produce the bug.
Go to the end of the file, hit Ctrl+S every time you hit enter at the enf of
the file.
Kile will crash after 20 times or even only 3 times.
I tested three times: the first time it crashed is after 30 hits, the second
one after 20 hits, the
Kile also crashed very frequently for me whenever I pressed the Ctrl+S
key to save the files. It is so often that I have to quit using Kile and
change back to Texmaker.
The output of ldd /usr/bin/kile is attached in this message.

It is hard to attach a file kile does not write to disk. The error
happens after changeing the file, so its probably caused by the change
which is not saved.
