[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2011-01-08 Thread Wolf Geldmacher
I checked - the DVD region was already set, so this cannot be the
problem I'm having. Your response made me check again, though, and for
some reason I cannot figure out (maybe one of the recent patches to
maverick?) the problem seems to have disappeared - reading audio CD's
works now.

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2011-01-07 Thread bjarne holen

Solution for X301 : MATSHITA DVD UJ-844: regionset

This DVD-ROM does not like to be unset in terms of region, and by setting it,
you should be able to mount DVD's and CD's
It refuses to cooperate if unset in terms of region.

NOTE, you cannot change region more than 5 times before you are stuck
with whatever region you chose.

sudo apt-get install regionset

sudo regionset

set some region

I think that should do it at least, worked for me

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2010-12-28 Thread Wolf Geldmacher
I have a Thinkpad x301 (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-844) and I still have problems in
maverick to recognise audio CD's.
It's not the HW (drive works fine in Vista), it's only audio CD's (data CD's
work fine). It's 100% reproducible. It has hit
not only Ubuntu, but other distirbutions (Fedora, SuSE, ...), too. Still no
reasonable solution.

This bug has been around now since 2008 - voting it the oldest unfixed
bug! ;-)

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2010-01-11 Thread DaveMachine
I have a Thinkpad x301 (MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-844) and I had problems in
karmic to recognise audio CDs.

Looking for solutions, i found this thread on bugzilla:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=485551

The suggestion:
If your BIOS setup allows it, change the IDE configuration from AHCI to IDE.
worked for me! :)

maybe the AHCI
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface) is not
fully supported yet...

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2010-01-04 Thread Andreas Brauchli
we're at karmic and still the same, however: I figured how to fix it
once.. problem being that audio-cds don't really have a file-system (you
read them raw)..

the fix consisted of killing the polling of the drive (devicekit-disk-
daemon), which removes the Unable to mount Audio Disk error boxes.
Then simply use an app that plays audio CDs (i used VLC) and feed it the
device node (/dev/cdrom). however that doesn't seem to always do it..
this time i get a no-medium error when sudo cat-ing the device - which
sounds like a kernel error (it's not the disc i tried switching)

suggestion from
http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-gnome/2008-April/019916.html
You need to rebuild libcdio with paranoia support, then rebuild gvfs
with CDDA support. However, this error is benign, and will not prevent
you from being able to listen to or rip audio CDs.

however gvfs-backends depends on libcdio-cdda0 and libcdio-paranoia0
(but which doesn't mean it's compiled in)

over at
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/ubuntu-63/audio-cds-wont-play-after-upgrade-to-ubuntu-8.04-639041/
it's suggested to put the user into the haldaemon group and reboot. not working
either.

helpless :(

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2009-04-11 Thread darthanubis
I have two SATA DVD drives. SH-S223F and SH-S223Q. The later is a lightscribe
drive which has stopped recognizing audio cds since my clean install of 9.04
beta. When I upgraded to 9.04 from 8.10 everything was perfect. But I removed
one of my older SATAI drives and reinstalled the BETA from scratch, and now
problem has arised.
Below is my dmesg output.

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2009-04-02 Thread Manuel Siggen
I just had the problem a couple of minutes ago, and noticed the
following dmesg output when inserting an audio CD :

[ 8766.028159] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[ 8766.028173] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[ 8766.028183] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1
[ 8766.028193] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 2
[ 8766.028201] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 3
[ 8766.028209] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 4
[ 8766.028217] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 5
[ 8766.028224] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 6
[ 8766.028232] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 7
[ 8766.031151] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[ 8766.031160] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[ 8766.054785] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 4
[ 8766.054800] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 1

The audio CD is detected by the Device recently plugged in applet
(don't know its name). K3b also sees the CD but : the CD itself is not
mounted (doesn't appear in /etc/mtab) and k3b cannot rip it.

When I plug a data CD, the CD is correctly mounted to /media/cdrom and I
can browse it with Dolphin. The dmesg output is :

[ 9052.072579] UDF-fs: No VRS found
[ 9052.093327] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
[ 9052.095070] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A

I'm on jaunty KDE 4.2 and using an external USB DVD writer.

hello, I also encountered the same problem (Bug #339163), when I insert
an audio cd to internal dvd writer drive, device notifier do not detect
the cd, and in dolphin file manager. But, it can be detected in Gnome.
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid.

I'm using KDE 4.2 with unsupported updates in software sources.

[Bug 310848] Re: audio cd not recognised

2009-01-14 Thread Lupine
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . What was the exact
application you were using, and what are the exact steps you took to
reproduce the issue? What version of Ubuntu are you using? What is the
version of the application you are using?
