[Bug 314389] Re: Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related
Ok the issue I was seeing was fixed some time in the Jaunty cycle and was no longer reproducible. I am therefore moving this bug to Fix Released. If you are still seeing issues they must be a different issue from mine and warrent a new bug. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Fix Released ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Andy Whitcroft (apw) -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sounds quite like bug 359392 -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 314389] Re: Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related
Hmm, two days of uptime later, I have got the same hang. May be running googleearth is enough by itself to get it. I am already connected to 'karmic' repository together with 'jaunty', probably will wait until more recent kernel/xorg/intel driver to come from this line. -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Oh yes, the direction remove Compiz worked for me. I removed everything saying 'compiz' in the package name or description, and the itch had gone ! Now I can start and stop googleearth as often as I want, without being afraid of X hang. -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 314389] Re: Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related
You've not provided enough information. However, given that you're on i965, this sounds like one of the well known X freeze bugs. Are you able to ssh into the machine when connected via ethernet? If so, and esp. if you don't have any crashes listed in your kernel system logs, you probably have an X freeze instead. For debugging, install the packages and follow the directions at: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-freeze-test/ -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 314389] Re: Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related
With all today updates of Jaunty (kernel, xorg, xorg drivers, KUbuntu KDE4, everything other that arrives through aptitude dist-upgrade, and a fresh reboot), the bug still persists. My computer is ASUS Z99Le notebook with A8Le motheboard and Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 video controller. The video driver is autodetected as intel. To reproduce the bug, it is enough to run GoogleEarth (it is OpenGL application if I understand correctly) for about 5 minutes and exit it, and then the graphics and keyboard freeze very soon (after 5..10 minutes of using some other apps like Seamonkey/Pidgin/Skype/Konsole), leaving only the mouse pointer moving. It is still possible to log into the system by network (and see these SIGLARMs in X by strace/ltrace). As I understand, at this time, the X server is trying to do ioctls on the file descriptor opened for /dev/dri/card0 and getting SIGALRMs in response. But killing the X server and hoping for kdm to restart it does not help - I have to do full reboot of the system to restore proper graphics operation. -- Jaunty: X windows hang after a short while -- seems to be DRI related https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/314389 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
