I wasn't optimistic since calling gnome-screensaver on the console just
returns and I didn't have any luck with ddd before either, but strace
actually gives me useable output. Here it comes (well, the relevant
tail):

Sorry, didn't have anything to do with strace at all but with installing
the debugging package. Anyway, the output should help someone who knows
the code.
