I've just tried this on another PC here - I thought it still had Hardy
x64, but it turns out to be Intrepid x64 too.

The only difference between my log and yours are the values of the
optimization's output are not the same.
Did you try deleting .hugin file in your home directory, purging hugin
and reinstalling again?

Can you delete $HOME/.hugin and try again?
If it still crash, can you post a screen shot of the optimization's
options?
And please, run hugin from within gdb (run 'gdb hugin' from the command line
and then the 'run' command). Then,

The originals are about 3M each but fortunately(?) it crashes if if just
use two of them, including in this rather smaller size.

Looking around, I wonder if this is a duplicate of #305820?
(Thank you for doing the backport of this version, by the way. Far
better than having to compile your own because the one in the main
repositories is missing files.)

(Incidentally #2, the secret to getting the Windows version working
under Wine turns out to be to select the option to modify the system
path - this results in the sub-programs being found. But it would be
nice to have the native version working too.)
