I can confirm that with the version of kdeutils/kde-printer-applet in intrepid-updates, 4:4.1.3-0ubuntu1~intrepid1, when plugging in a usb printer, no popup notification is given by printer-applet. I have also verified that with version of kdeutils/kde-printer-applet in intrepid- proposed,
