For I currently use the Alpha of Kubuntu 9.10 I can't clearly answer your
question. But if I remember correctly I indeed hadn't experienced this bug
during the time I was using the stable Kubuntu 9.04.
Unfortunately I can't give you more informations, about the symptoms or the

I'm still using Kubuntu 9.04 and am no longer experiencing the problem.
As for symptoms, when it was occurring I don't remember noticing
negative side effects caused by the issue - it was just annoying to get
the crash message on every boot. However the issue has been fixed for me
