Sorry I have since abandoned KDE because of bugs so I can't provide any more information. I'm pretty sure that it wasn't a bug and it was just be being unfamiliar with KDE (I'm a native gnome user). So, I'm going to mark this as invalid unless someone else has seen the same problem.
