As of the current version in Natty, the behavior is different. The init
script has been converted to an Upstart job, and when GDM is not
running, it reacts thusly:
# reload gdm
reload: Unknown instance:
# echo $?
1

When we try to reload gdm with gdm stopped
/etc/init.d/gdm reload, the return code is 1 without printing any error
Normally, when the output is different from 0, we should have a warning
error message
