This bug was fixed in libapache2-mod-passenger 2.2.5debian1-1 in upstream debian. These changes are already in Ubuntu lucid, closing the bug report. ** Changed in: passenger (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Fix Released -- Building against apache2-prefork-dev would allow mod_php5

Chuck, It looks as if lucid allows libapache2-mod-php5 and libapache2-mod-passenger to coexist already. I believe this was fixed in debian bug #545872, which was included when passenger2.2.7debian-1 was synced. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #545872

This causes a bit of a problem for me as well. The official install instructions at http://modrails.com/documentation/Users%20guide%20Apache.html#_apache_development_headers_aren_8217_t_installed suggest building with prefork as well. sudo apt-get install apache2-prefork-dev ** Changed in:

John, anyone else in the same situation, I've rebuilt passenger against prefork and made it available from my PPA https://launchpad.net/~a.kurtz/+archive/ppa I'm using it without problems so far. -- Building against apache2-prefork-dev would allow mod_php5 cohabitation
