So I realized that Fedora 10 has KDE 4.1.2; so of course the problem did not appear. I have not tried a fresh Ubuntu disc yet. However, I've noticed that the drop shadows are fine when I use Xrender, though it's substantially slower than OpenGL. -- [RS690M] kde drop shadow glitch

You can try Option AccelMethod XAA in the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see if it is an EXA bug. There will be a mesa 7.4 update soon, maybe it will help. You can already try out an official preview of this from the xorg-edgers PPA at
