** Description changed:
Binary package hint: kwin
Ubuntu 9.04 (alpha)
I've been seeing this effect (please refer to screenshot) after
upgrading to KDE 4.2, and I've heard that it may be due to some bugs in
the xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver. This does not occur in
So I realized that Fedora 10 has KDE 4.1.2; so of course the problem did
not appear. I have not tried a fresh Ubuntu disc yet. However, I've
noticed that the drop shadows are fine when I use Xrender, though it's
substantially slower than OpenGL.

This bug is still relevant as of the beta freeze. If more information is
needed, I'd be happy to provide it.

You can try
Option AccelMethod XAA
in the Device section of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see if it is an EXA bug.
There will be a mesa 7.4 update soon, maybe it will help. You can
already try out an official preview of this from the xorg-edgers PPA at
It still does this with XAA. I then installed the crack and it still did
this with or without XAA. I have some time this weekend so I could try
some clean live sessions such as the fresh 9.04 beta and Fedora 10, to
see if I could find some clues. Thanks for your patience!

So I just upgraded to 2.6.28-11-generic, but the problem remains.

[RS690M] kde
Sure. Should I do this again with drop shadows enabled (I have the
unsightly shadows disabled)?
