I have create a new bug

describes the problem better (I hope) , has pictures attached and the
misleading suspicion about regression is no longer
This bug is no regression occurring around kernel 2.6.27-13. It exists
(at least) in Hardy, Intrepid and also in Jaunty. I'll provide more
details, log and photos of the problem soon.
But there is no reason to mark the verification of proposed Intrepid
kernels 2.6.27-13 and -14 as failed because

I tested on two different computers. On an self assembled Desktop and a Dell
Inspiron 1521. While the Desktop does not show this corruption with any kernel,
the Inspiron shows similar problems with even the 2.6.27-7 kernel (the special
characters are mostly invisible but sometimes get
