I'm afraid this will not make it for jaunty because this requires to change
software-properties to run
as user (it currently runs as root) and to modify user settings. It will need a
dbus/policykit based backend
so that it can change system and user settings from the
I'm sorry I didn't realize before that the settings didn't make as much
sense with the auto-opening behavior. I've updated the spec with a
mockup of how they can be changed to convey the distinction between
checking for updates, handling security updates, and handling other
updates.

Thanks for your bugreport.
The functionality is still there, but I agree that the wording is
misleading now. The check for updates will still be performed daily and
the user is still notified for security updates when they will become
available. But normal updates will only be displayed once a
