Actually, it needs an MTA to send warning messages (MAIL-ON-WARNING
option) as well as for the Debian specific cron jobs output.
Default Ubuntu install doesn't ship any MTA listed as alternatives in
the dependencies?

Yes it does, but at the time I filed this report, rkhunter never
required me to install this extra stuff. So it could have mean that
they were already installed by default in previous versions of ubuntu.

This seems to be a dependency issue. The exim4 package should be a
Suggests dependency, like bsd-mailx is. rkhunter does not NEED an MTA
to do its job.
