Copy old version of kdenliverc into .kde/share... (including echo...
kdnliverc..) - error message...

If #16 doesn't work for you open ~/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc remove
\n and replace it with a new line.

I found a very simple and fast workaround which worked for me (Kubuntu 11.10
final 32-Bit) on a german site (I'm german)

This is happening to me as well.
Running Kubuntu 11.10 beta 2.
Installed Kdenlive from Muon. Install went fine but when I try to run
the application, I get a screen pop-up that says:
Fatel Error:
MLT's SDL module not found. Please check your MLT install.
Kdenlive will not work until this is
Kubuntu 64-bit 10.10
Installed kdenlive, got the same message as in the original report.
Removing kdenliverc
Didn't help.
Removed frei0r-plugins
Didn't help.

fixed upstream in MLT git (http://mltframework.org/gitweb/mlt.git), the
trouble is caused by facedetect.so ( a frei0r plugin). The MLT
developper have blacklisted this one.
to benefit from this use my ppa, with the latest MLT git snaphot (27
june) and the latest Kdenlive svn snapshot (3679).
i'm having this problem too-but it seems to be a little different on my
system. i have ubuntu 9.04 32 bit edition.
I installed kdenlive and ran the initial wizard that comes up. I tried
out kdenlive. I never rendered any video. Then I installed frei0r-
plugins. I played with some more video. I
The problem seems to be with the facedetect.so plugin
(/usr/lib/frei0r-1/facedetect.so). Removing this one stops the
startupcrash.

I'm having the same issue. Kdenlive crashes on startup whenever frei0r
is installed.
But for me none of the fore mentioned work-arounds seem to work.
I completely removed kdenlive, frei0r, the kdenlive directory and the .kde
directory.
After that I ran the kdenlive wizard before reinstalling
sorry to say that MichaelB, but deleting kdenliverc file works ONLY if
frei0r-plugins aren't installed on the system. If they are present the
config wizard will display an error message on first step.

I've got the same problem.
I solved it by deleting the following file:
home/xxx/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc
After this, kdenlive is working.

when the problem happened I erased all configuration files
(/home/{user}/.kde) and the problem was still present, installing frei0r
'after' runing the wizard solved the issue (but no fixing here.. jus
workaround)

to reproduce this bug :
1- a fresh and clean install of ubuntu jaunty (I work with 64bits arch, don't
know if it matters here)
2- sudo apt-get install kdenlive frei0r-plugins
it is important to install both at the same time, if you install frei0r
after kdenlive first
I'm on 32bit so it's the same on both arch.

I'd like to work on that point, but after several attempts, I haven't
been able to reproduce.
I removed any configuration file for kdenlive, installed frei0r plugins,
ran kdenlive config wizzard, no issue reported...
The problem is probably happening with an existing kdenlive
configuration
