Public bug reported: I installed Ubuntu Jaunty formating a Intrepid installation. With intrepid the computer was working fine, but with Jaunty it randomly freezes. I believe is a X problem because when working with the console only it does not happen. Sometimes the computer will not freezes but all the programs will get closed.
I am using the Jaunty i386 (installed from the alternate cd) on a AMD 4200 dual core with 2 Gb RAM and a Nvidia 7100GS. So far this is what I tried: 1) Installing Jaunty, then trying to update the packages. It never ends, it crashes duing the update. 2) Installing Juanty and installing the nvidia propietary drivers with the gui first, restart and then update the packages, but it crashes again. 3) Then I installed again but this time I use a console and tried to update from there. It crashed again. 4) On the console I killed 'gdm' so X is closed, and then I update. It updates fine (that is why I am guessing its an X problem). But once I go into the system it keeps on freezing randomly. 5) I have downloaded the Nvidia newest stable driver. I installed Jaunty again, from a console killed 'gdm', installed nvidia driver, reboot, in a console again updated the packages, reboot. It freezed again. I attach my Xorg.0.log This is getting very anoying and its imposible to use the computer for anything since it could crash at any moment. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Ubuntu freezes randomly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/379250 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
