As of today it seems the problem is yet to be fixed. I'd like to
summarize some of what I've collected so far. (Non-expert view).
Some persons using HP printer-scanner-copier devices found the printer working
well, but the system not recognizing the scanner. In my other cases, it was
HP-915,

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it. It still doesn't work. I get the
message that nothing was detected. Strongly hope the problem will be (or
will have been) fixed in karmic. EVERYthing else works or can be made to
work

To prevent this error, you can comment out the “/dev/video0″ line in
/etc/sane.d/v4l.conf.

Why is this bug unassigned? Does this mean that the chances of it being taken

I report that I have the same exact problemubuntu jaunty, printer
works fine but scanner not detected, instead sane detects
webcamhoping that the priority of this bug will be bumped up.
