With the Karmic release now imminent, I decided to go back to the default package, libsdl1.2debian-alsa. sdlmame exhibits the same symptoms of skipping or garbled sound previously mentioned in this bug. This is followed by the sound being lost entirely, followed by sdlmame hanging. Reverting to

Followed a suggestion from ubuntuforums and installed libsdl1.2debian- all. Sadly, it did not resolve the issue. Installing that package removed the libsdl1.2debian-alsa package. apt-cache policy libsdl1.2debian-all libsdl1.2debian-all: Installed: 1.2.13-4ubuntu3 After reinstalling
