i have almost the same problem but in front right and front left speaker since the upgrade to Karmic, it's setup for 5.1 surround. With jaunty I had to type sudo killall pulseaudio every time I needed sound, but It worked great, now i can't make it work. Tested via: speaker-test -c6 -l1 -twav

AFAIS in the gui there is no way to look at alsa controls anymore, is there? So I went to console and opened alsamixer and guess what - the channels were set to 0. After making them louder it worked again. It seems to me that pulseaudio does not change the underlying alsa controls for the
