[Bug 409706] Re: gnome-help excessive CPU usage

2011-10-15 Thread Burton Tsang
This issue is also present in Ubuntu 11.10. Just having the help open
and sitting there consumes 100% CPU.

** Attachment added: System Monitor showing yelp consuming all CPU usage.

[Bug 409706] Re: gnome-help excessive CPU usage

2010-12-31 Thread Eliah Kagan
I am able to reproduce this on a Maverick amd64 system running a 2.2 GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo processor (by running the command yelp ghelp:user-
guide -- I cannot try running yelp with no arguments, since this system
is affected by Bug 433504). The CPU spikes to 100% for at least 4
seconds.

[Bug 409706] Re: gnome-help excessive CPU usage

2010-12-31 Thread Eliah Kagan
I am also able to reproduce it on a Natty i386 system (also with the
command yelp ghelp:user-guide). That system is a VMware Workstation
virtual machine with the 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo machine (running
Maverick amd64) as the host system. The Natty guest system runs yelp
2.30.2-0ubuntu1. The VMware Workstation version (in case it's relevant
for benchmarking or other purposes) is 7.1.3 build-324285.

I neglected to mention it before, but the Maverick amd64 system runs
yelp 2.30.1-0ubuntu1.

[Bug 409706] Re: gnome-help excessive CPU usage

2010-09-18 Thread rusivi1
xor, thank you very much for testing this in Lucid and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I have an AMD dual-core and opening yelp from the
Terminal I went from 10%/5% to 50%/100% but the 50%/100% was sustained
for less than a second. While for modern hardware this is no sweat, this
is certainly an issue for less resource available hardware. Hence, it
seems this should be marked as wishlist. As well, I am confirming this
bug.

Thank you for posting this bug.

What are your hardware specs?

Does this happen in Lucid?

2010-09-13 Thread xor
My hardware specs have changed ever since I submited this bug report.
I now have a quad8300 intel cpu wich does't take the initial 25 seconds of
100% cpu usage, but it still takes around 7 seconds of 100% cpu usage.
And yes, it happends in Lucid.

Hello folks, To maintain a respectful atmosphere, please follow the code

this in mind.

Does the applications hangs or it's just use that amount of CPU while
doing nothing? if it hang could you get a backtrace of that that'd help
us to see where the issue is. thanks.

When reporting a bug you have to specify which package it affects in
launchpad's system. To assign this bug to a package, click the drop-down
menu next to Affects: Ubuntu and in the package entry field enter
yelp. Then click save changes.

2009-08-08 Thread xor
This is ridiculous!

The package was specified in the OP, you have bug triage helpers that can do
that.
It's not enough that we have to go to the trouble of registering on this site
to help you, when we're actually registered and come up with a post, this is
how you deal with it.

Stellar performance there!/sarcasm

2009-08-07 Thread Nanley Chery
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage .
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the
Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are
having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
