no problem with me on Lucid and I have a Dell 1525 too, How are you
selecting the HDMI output?

I pretty sure you have HDMI configured:

'hdmi:CARD=Intel,DEV=0

[Bug 417428] Re: No HDMI Audio with Intel HDAudio

2010-05-15 Thread Bertoldo Fonseca
I'm trying to use my wife's laptop to watch movies and TV Shows on my LCD TV.
I'm using a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.
My wife always used the Windows Vista (came with laptop) to watch videos, but
the Windows Vista was not handling well (performance issues) the high
definition videos. So I convinced her to make a dual boot on laptop using
Ubuntu.

Laptop is D'ell Inspiron 1525 laptop and the TV is a Samsung LCD TV 26.

There is no audio when I plug the HDMI cable. I have tried a bunch of
attempts to configure the audio output (searching on Google), but none
of it works. Even when I try to run 'speaker-test' there is no audio at
all.

I'm very pleased if someone can help to figure out what is wrong.

Follow the output of my configuration:

You can turn off the computer and restart and maybe the sound is
activated, which should not happen. The normal thing would you connected
the hdmi, select that output and functions. What other stories are not
sleeping and therefore this is a bug user-facing enormous.

[Bug 417428] Re: No HDMI Audio with Intel HDAudio

2010-03-16 Thread Brad Figg
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a
Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically
gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 417428

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

Could you please download http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh and
run it, then attach the resulting file that is created? This will likst
more information about your hardware to try and help determine whether
alsa is correctly identifying your HDMI hardware.

Thanks

No. I never knew I had to... I will test it now...

Shouldn't that package be installed by default if it's required for such
functionality (where the normal user will expect it to just work, plug
'n play?)

It's not required for _all_ hardware.

Ok - tested it with pavucontrol installed. No change, even when using
pavucontrol instead of the default audio control.

I tried both HDMI Audio output options. If you need me to run any
