A wasn't sure whether I should file a new bug or just use this one, but
git-core is still very much out of date.
On git.or.cz you will already find version 1.5.0.5, and I was wondering
why not any of the 1.5.X.X is in feisty.
Especially because git 1.5 seems to be a huge improvement compared to

This is one of those packages that must be kept up to date. If the
servers change format, it will become useless. I would argue that
backport is critical.

Yeah, sounds good for backporting. Works fine for me for checking out a
Ubuntu kernel.

It should be noted that the Dapper version of git-core is no longer
compatible with kernel.org, rendering it useless for it's most common
purpose ( checkout the kernel source tree ).
I built the edgy version of git-core on dapper and it appears to work
fine. It correctly checks out and updates

is git-core a safe package to backport? I'm not terribly familiar with
git. And how does that affect the various git frontends and stuff in
Dapper? Are they still compatible?
