I have now had the same error, over a week later. Don't know what caused
it this time.

What i did was start the apt-get upgrade in a command window and look at
the error reports. That gave me the clue to where to look

The error message is preceeded by appearance of a battery icon in the
bar showing the charging plug. Latter the icon disappears.

The problem was caused by a missing link after installing grub2. The
command
sudo ln -s /usr/sbin/update-grub /sbin/update-grub
brought relieve.
