[Bug 434859] Re: [karmic] gnome-do doesn ’t open OOo-Documents

2010-01-17 Thread Isny
The executable bit was the problem for me: after I did chmod 666
filenames, gnome Do worked OK and began opening the documents with
openoffice.

[Bug 434859] Re: [karmic] gnome-do doesn ’t open OOo-Documents

2009-10-13 Thread Aethralis
Learnt from previous comments the solution. But I still think this is a
usability bug, as there is no visible way to bind OOo documents to the
open command. Also I would imagine that it should not be too hard to
set it for such filetypes as default.

2009-10-13 Thread Alex Launi
Don't put executable permission on your documents. Your document has the
executable bit set, so it makes sense that we should let you try and run it.
It could easily be a python or bash script.

If I recall correctly, the executable bit gets set if you transfer
that file to a FAT partition (like a flash drive). I forget why this
happens.

Status in “gnome-do” package in Ubuntu: Invalid

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: gnome-do

 Ubuntu 9.10
 Gnome Do Version is 0.8.2
 package is gnome-do_0.8.2+dfsg-0-9.10~ppa1
 same behavior in gnome-do_0.8.2+dfgs-1_i386.deb (universe)

When typing the name of an OOo-document (foo.odt) it is properly displayed
with the assotiated icon in the gnome do searchbox, but when hitting enter
gnome do won’t start OpenOffice.org writer and open the document as expected.
Nothing happens, there are also no error messages in the terminal.

This would be because FAT doesn't support permissions at all, so rwx
permissions are invented by the kernel. These get copied when you
copy the files...

Ahh, that’s it. It shows 'run' as default. If i change it to 'open' it
works. But where are the default settings stored?

Sorry, i know this isn’t a support thread.

It will learn your common actions, so if you choose 'open' enough times
that will become the default.

2009-09-22 Thread Robert Dyer
Works fine for me. My guess is your xdg-open (part of the xdg-utils
package) is not working.

Type 'xdg-open foo.odt' and see if it works. If it does not, then the
problem is with your XDG configuration and not with GNOME Do.

Thanks for your reply.

'xdg-open ~/foo.odt' works fine.

I had the same problem in jaunty with the latest ppa version on a
different machine. The universe package in jaunty isn’t affected though.
So my guess would be that the problem is caused by gnome do or the files
and folders plugin. But maybe i’m wrong and my OOo-documents just don’t
love me anymore.

What action are you performing? It may be defaulting to something like
'Copy' instead of 'Open'. After you type the filename, hit tab and itll
show the action.
