Definitely an annoying behaviour. If there is a scrollbar on the image I probably want to scroll the image, not the list of the images. I'm sorry to sound negative but I installed gThumb as an alternative to eog but I'm unistalling it because of this. I'll be checking some other viewer. --

From the changelog of 2.9.1 and the corresponding bugreport (131416) it seems that the idea was to navigate through the images only in fit mode. Perhaps a modifier key such as Alt. for either scrolling or navigating would be nice? In the meantime, does anyone know a (fast) image viewer that
