This seems to be a new issue, not a direct regression to the old bug fixed in edgy. For me, it was rather this bug, which affects a lot of packages: https://launchpad.net/~cyfex/+archive/ppa I tested a fix for gnome-panel, which works perfectly: Just add https://launchpad.net/~cyfex/+archive/ppa and see if this fixes it. Transparency is a problem though with A LOT of more applications' tray icons but this one is really annoying.
