[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
Simon Ruggier: your concerns are indeed valid, thanks; I will split the bug. -- Synaptic lacks good package cache management settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/45505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
Unless I am mistaken, the first two points I made: - when you right-click a package, all the options available if you were to select Package from the menu should be available (e.g. Download Changelog is not currently available) - when you right-click a package and select Properties (or if you go Settings - Preferences - General - Appearance and check show package properties in the main window), it would be nice if one of the tabs was Changelog and clicking it would automatically download the changelog for the package. are also covered by bug 18683, so I will remove them from this one :) ** Summary changed: - Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic + Synaptic lacks good package cache management settings ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: synaptic - - I'm using Synaptic in Dapper and here are some features that I would - like to see added: - - - when you right-click a package, all the options available if you were - to select Package from the menu should be available (e.g. Download - Changelog is not currently available) - - - when you right-click a package and select Properties (or if you go - Settings - Preferences - General - Appearance and check show package - properties in the main window), it would be nice if one of the tabs was - Changelog and clicking it would automatically download the changelog - for the package. - - - under Settings - Preferences - Files (tab) there are options to - delete cached packages, however the ones that would make the most sense - are not offered, namely 'delete cached package files older than' with an - option to set a number of days or 'limit the package cache to' with an - option to set a number of MB. + Under Settings - Preferences - Files (tab) there are options to delete + cached packages, however the ones that would make the most sense are not + offered, namely 'delete cached package files older than' with an option + to set a number of days or 'limit the package cache to' with an option + to set a number of MB. -- Synaptic lacks good package cache management settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/45505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
You should file requests like these as separate bugs, for the following two reasons: At least one of your requests is a duplicate, but because they're all in one bug, it can't be marked as such. Also, as a user trying to make sure I don't file a duplicate, your bug subject is useless to me, and I am forced to open your bug and read all of the requests. -- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/45505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I forgot to mention, bug 18683 is the duplicate I was referring to. -- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/45505 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
I've thought about it a bit more and I think that if g-a-i just displays the package name I could live with that (so I filed Bug #55478), thus I withdraw my request for the feature dated 2006-06-23 (however the 2006-05-19 ones still make sense to me :) -- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic https://launchpad.net/bugs/45505 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
Another feature I just thought of that would be nice to see; 'gnome-app- install' aims to be a pretty alternative to Synaptic for more novice users; if you click its Advanced button, it closes and runs Synaptic. Unfortunately, while you gain Synaptic's additional features, you loose gnome-app-install's program icons, which are an excellent visual reference. Might it be possible to let Synaptic use gnome-app-install's icons in the same way? (e.g. on the package line and also in the description, with options in Prefereces to turn them on or off independently of each other) If it is, it would also be good to turn this on by default when someone runs Synaptic by clicking the Advanced button in gnome-app-install though it should be off by default otherwise. -- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic https://launchpad.net/bugs/45505 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 45505] Re: Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic
I am going to remove the advanced button at all. It creates only a mess: click on the button, g-a-i disapears immediatly, wait, screen fades out, enter your password and then you get synaptic. a package can provide several apps and so several icons. this cannot be done in a sane way. -- Multiple feature requests for Ubuntu's Synaptic https://launchpad.net/bugs/45505 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
