Well, just for the record I tried in Lucid and the problem persists. shm
did not work, indeed.

It is shm-related.
When lag appears, pause the game and type this in terminal:
/usr/bin/pulseaudio --cleanup-shm
And there is no lag again :)

I'm using the very recent version of Ubuntu Lucid and that bug also
occurred on my system when I tried to play JamLegend. The only possible
solution was to install OSS4. However, this is just a simple workaround
and I want my PulseAudio back as soon as possible. (:
