Same here with my A50. It suspends and hibernates but wakes up to black
screen. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 Beta.
Suspend / hybernate works like a dream on Pardus Linux 2007.3 which has
the older 2.6.18 kernel.

Dapper RC - Resume from hibernation fails on Toshiba A50
Hardy Heron Alpha5 was recently released. It contains an updated version
of the Intel driver. You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha5
Live CD from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/alpha-5/ . If you
can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your
results.
If it still happens with Hardy Alpha5 I guess it is a duplicate of bug
#150109.
