When custom kernel modules are built they should Provides: vmware-
player-kernel-modules. Just having the source installed doesn't mean
that the binary modules have been built.
** Changed in: vmware-player (Ubuntu)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Michael Vogt
Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed
The build error is fixed with vmware-player-kernel-source 2.6.15
(2.6.15.10-9). Thanks!
But the dependency is not changed, so this bug report is still valid.

I have the same problem (cannot read debian/control).
Actually it would be nice if binary vmware-player-kernel-modules
was upgraded together with kernel.

I've got a change sent off to Ubuntu people to fix this, I imagine it's
in the approval queue.

I lied, I submitted a fix for 49924 (which the first comment is about),
not this bug. I don't see this problem though.

You don't see the problem with building modules from source?
Does it work for you?
I had the same output as Whoopie attached in build.log
