Problem is Ghostscript, not SpliX. Please update your Lucid system so that you are completely up-to-date. Then try printing again. Got some kind of trouble then try to print png image (Samsung ML-1640 printer). I looked in /tmp and find some files with gs_* names and lp user owner (and lp group), having -rw--- (600) file permissions. This files seems was created by CUPS subsystem (filter). Briefly, me too. Some pdfs print, others fail when using Evince. Printing from OpenOffice and Gimp is fine. Okular, as suggested above did succeed in printing one of the problem pdfs. lpr filename.pdf failed Ubuntu 9.10 both 32 and 64 bit systems. Will look into this further and attach error logs soon... Can you send the PDF directly to CUPS by running lpr PDF file name in a terminal window?
