The easiest solution would be to just simply re-install Ubuntu using the
installation CD.  The linux kernel appears to have been corrupted and
grub can not load it properly.  It might also still be possible to boot
into a previous version of the kernel.  The grub menu (get to it by
pressing the arrow keys during before the point you see this screen.
The re-install process may offer an option to do a repair.

I would also suggest using the LIveCD to be able to access your files so
that you may be able to back them up onto an external harddrive.
