Still it's a problem in 2.6.17-10-generic. After changing to edgy, I can't burn
even normal CDs. Recompiling packaged from feisty doesn't help (didn't think it
will - problem is in both cds and dvds now).

burns ok but can't read the burnt dvd on any machine.

I have the same issue. Months passed since first report of this bug
(https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/dvdrtools/+bug/46966,
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=182415) and people still can not read
dvds, which they successfuly burned under dapper. LTS???!!! Not for burning
Can also confirm this.
Getting seek complete errors in Ubuntu and Debian.
Burning works in Windows.
Ubuntu:
$ dpkg -l dvd+rw-tools | grep ^ii

Debian:
