I tried and there is an error. I also had a thought when doing it and apparently everything works fine if I call the software-center with sudo. The prompt for the admin password never pops up when I run the software-center from the system tray, so that makes sense. adoli...@adoliver-desktop:~$

I thought of one other thing that may be causing the hang-up. This is a new install of Ubuntu because my previous system hard-disk failed. The home directory however I keep on a separate hard-drive, mounted as seen in the fstab. After installing Ubunut I added the mount of my original home
