[Bug 51009] Re: Grub pointing to (hd0,0) instead of (hd2,0)

2008-06-17 Thread Phillip Susi
If you change the bios location of your boot drive, there is nothing
that grub can do; you have to update your menu.lst to point to the new
location yourself.

2008-06-14 Thread vivichrist
I have this exact same problem and this happened because I installed
ubuntu without the nvidia sata raid on and later switched it on in the
bios. this rearranges the drives i.e my hda became hdc?

[Bug 51009] Re: Grub pointing to (hd0,0) instead of (hd2,0)

2007-01-24 Thread davmor2
Have you got the bios setup as raid as first boot. This would then set
the first bootable device as hd0,0 (first raid), hd1,0 (second raid),
hd2,0 (first ide), hd4,0 (second ide). It may not be an option in your
bios it may just rename the raid as first boot assuming your running a
server or something.

[Bug 51009] Re: Grub pointing to (hd0,0) instead of (hd2,0)

2006-12-13 Thread Phillip Susi
Wow. It sounds like your system is very messed up. The bios is ALWAYS
supposed to make the boot drive appear as hd0. It should not be
possible to not have an hd0 and hd1, but then have an hd2. I am
relatively certain that there is no way to get windows to boot on such a
system as it's boot loader will ONLY read from hd0.

You can prevent this from reverting when you upgrade kernels by finding
the line in menu.lst that looks something like:

# groot=(hd0,0)

And changing it to read hd2.
