OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.0-b16, mixed mode)

Fonts are massively distorted (see screenshot). Too high and too thin,
practically unreadable. Since there is no sun jre available in lucid I
cannot verify this bug on other java systems. Application itself works
  fine with karmic and windows.

I still have this problem with openjdk-6 6b18~pre5-0ubuntu1~ppa1 from
your PPA (screenshot attached).

Steps to reproduce: Install jdownloader (launcher script) from the PPA
[1] and start jdownloader. It will download jdownloader and launch it.

It shows the same behavior for me on current lucid's openjdk. changing
to the gtk style fixes it as well as switching to sun-java6-jre.

2010-03-29 Thread Christian Dannie Storgaard
I can confirm that hanichl's suggestion works.

To make it easier for others to complete the steps (since it's kind of
hard when you can read the text), the theme to select is the second most
topmost in the theme-list.

I attached a screenshot to better show the action needed.

including where to click to get JDownloader to use Gtk for rendering

[Bug 520515] Re: Fonts in Java application are distorted

2010-03-29 Thread Christian Dannie Storgaard
Also, since Sun's Java was mentioned earlier, here's a more correct
way of installing it in Lucid:

sudo apt-add-repository 'deb http://archive.canonical.com/ lucid partner'
sudo apt-get update
sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre

If you just want to run a single application in Sun's Java, you can run:

/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/bin/java -jar /path/to/program.jar

else, as Philipp Lies wrote, type:

sudo update-alternatives --config java

and select /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/jre/bin/java (probably the
selection labeled 2)

concerning application JDownloader: a workaround to avoid suns jre : changing
the style of JDownloader to GTK will give you a smile on your face:
Settings - User Interface - Look: change to Light(GTK)and

confirm NOT working especially for application JDownloader 09.909
system: ubu 10.04 beta1 X64
os...@dahoam:~$ java -version
java version 1.6.0_18
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.8pre) (6b18~pre3-0ubuntu1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 16.0-b13, mixed mode)

fonts are unreadable, works if sun-java is installed , if standalone openjdk is
installed , the fonts are reaped.
