I found a corresponding bug report in Debian, so I have attached a bug
watch.
Interestingly enough, Ubuntu 12.04 had an English man page
(http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/precise/en/man1/linphone.1.html),
but this is gone again in all later releases, see for instance 16.04:
