[Bug 538738] Re: Firefox uses the SI standard for base-2 units

2013-01-03 Thread enolive
unfortunately, this bug was marked as WONTFIX upstream:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=108147 over 10 years ago.
This might be the correct choice at that time, since nobody used decimal
prefixes (except hard disk manufacturers) at that time. I think this
decision should be reconsidered though as more and more applications and
operating systems are switching to SI units nowadays

2012-11-27 Thread David D Lowe
This is also true of the Downloads window. The file sizes there do not
conform to Ubuntu's unit policy.

[Bug 538738] Re: Firefox uses the SI standard for base-2 units

2010-03-17 Thread Andy Branscomb
Confirmed in firefox 3.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu6 on Lucid

Also fixed a typo in the description.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox uses the SI standard for base-2 units. This violates the units
  policy [1].

Testcase: Open a random page in Firefox (for example, http://ubuntu.com)
and then go to Tools - Page Info - General - Size. It should display
- 17.91 kB (17911 bytes) instead of 19.49 KB (17911 bytes).
+ 17.91 kB (17911 bytes) instead of 17.49 KB (17911 bytes).

  [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UnitsPolicy

** Changed in: firefox (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Confirmed
