I think this is a matter of personal preference. I personally enjoy
using the corner-tapping, although my touchpad also has physical
buttons.

I disabled the pad corner buttons with :
xinput --set-prop --type=int --format=8 SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
Synaptics Tap Action 0 0 0 0 1 2 0
The first 4 values are pad corners right-top right-bottom left-top left-
bottom, the last 3 are 1, 2 and 3 tap fingers. Values: 0=disable 1=left
