I see this on Natty, too. And here, I can't switch off compiz anymore,
as I did with Maverick.

2011-04-09 Thread Torsten Bronger
I can confim this on Maverick. Why is this marked incomplete? I
think all information the users can provide is there: Activate compiz
and the full screen shortcut is just passed to the application instead
of properly executed. Deactivate compiz, and everything works as
expected.

Got this problem in Maverick and the Extra WM Actions plugins is not
available anymore.

Anyone have another solution, or where can I get Extra WM Actions?

Got it by installing extra compiz plugins. Still not working, though
after enabling it.

If you use Alt+F11 as the shortcut, make sure that Tomboy isn't stealing
the keypress as it defaults to using Alt+F11 for one of its own
shortcuts.

2010-06-24 Thread Red_Acid
If you're using Compiz, you just need to enable Extra WM Actions under
Window Management in CompizConfig Settings Manager.

Found that solution in Ubuntu Forums:

[Bug 546688] Re: gnome/metacity full screen problem

2010-05-07 Thread qweqq
The bug doesn't occur when having Desktop Effects set to None.

As a workaround when you have enabled Desktop Effects you can use a
small program called wmctrl.

Install through terminal:

sudo apt-get install wmctrl

or you can install it from Synaptic.

Once you have installed it go to System - Preferences - Keyboard
Shortcuts, and click Add. A small window should pop asking for Name of
the custom key combination, and Command. In the first field type
something like Toggle fullscreen through wmctrl and in the second
field type:

wmctrl -r :ACTIVE: -b toggle,fullscreen

After that just look in the list for your custom entry and bind a key.
:)

The above command calls the wmctrl program which asks the currently
running window manager to toggle the active window fullscreen state.

I can confirm this does not work in lucid yet (now RC). I have used it for
making my NX session go fullscreen on a single workspace.
It has worked very nicely in karmic.

[Bug 546688] Re: gnome/metacity full screen problem

2010-04-06 Thread oh
I confirm this bug, it seems that the .. hm, window manager, which I
imagine translates the key press into do fullscreen, simply pushes the
key press onto the windows. For example, running top in an xterm I
get unknown command when I press my configured fullscreen key
combination while normally top would not see a keypress and the window
would be put into fullscreen mode (not maximized, but covering the
entire xinerama screen).

2010-04-01 Thread Jason J. Herne
Using Lucid, I can confirm that after setting the Toggle Fullscreen
keybinding in System - Preferences - Keyboard Shortcuts attempting
to use the shortcut seems to do nothing.

My question is what should happen? Is this the same thing as
pressing F11 in firefox and gedit for example? Do applications have to
support some special kind of full screen mode for this to work? or does
this work for all applications/windows?
